55th Annual Meeting and Conference of the Canadian Society of Biochemistry, Molecular and Cellular Biology (CSBMCB) to be held March 15 - 18, 2012 at the Whistler Conference Centre in Whistler, BC, Canada. The title for the 2012 conference is "Epigenetics and Genomic Stability" and the meeting will begin with a keynote address by Dr. Peggy Jeggo, a well known researcher, from the Genome Damage and Stability Centre, University of Sussex. The meeting will consist of the following themes: 1) active/repressive chromatin (constitutive/facultative heterochromatin), 2) chromatin assembly, chromosomal and nuclear architecture, 3) sensing and repairing DNA damage, and 4) epigenesis, disease and genome instability. Selected papers and abstracts from the oral and poster presentations will be presented in a special issue of the journal "Biochemistry and Cell Biology" and the conference agenda will also be available online in the near future at http://csbmcb.ca/meetings.aspx. "Histone Deacetylases and Reversible Acetylation in Signaling and Disease" to be held June 26 to July 1, 2011 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. This conference will focus on our current level of knowledge about function of acetylated proteins and the enzymes [lysine acetyltransferases (HATs) and histone deacetylases (HDACs)] which dynamically regulate the acetylation status of proteins. Topics to be discussed include HDACs and Sirtuins in physiological processes, HATs and HDACs in disease, HDACs and HATs in epigenetic regulation, HATs, HDACs and acetylation readers (structure and function), enabling technologies, and HATs and HDACs as therapeutic targets.
